We always joke that CNN stands for "Constant Negative News." Unfortunately it's true. In a world full of constant negativity, we have to have something to combat it. Negativity never got anyone to the top, and in fact, many prominent and successful authors will tell you that it is draining and unproductive. So why do we watch it or listen to it? Is it to feel better about yourself and your circumstances? It may be hard to answer that, but when you do answer it truthfully you'll be one the road to a much happier life.
You might be thinking, "But I have to know what's going on in the world! I need to be informed!." My thought process is this, "If it's bad enough, someone will call me." Since I sold my TV and quit listening to the radio or reading big news sites, I still find that I'm more informed about the real issues than the general population with the propaganda they've been fed! Believe me, you don't need to know about the 11 murders around the country or the car wreck in your town. I have a firm belief that if Americans spent as much time doing something productive as they do watching the news and other pointless tv programs that our country would be much better off.
Anyway, back on topic. If you find yourself constantly surrounded by negative and you're trying to be productive and move forward in your life, check out these quotes that I've found very helpful in keeping my mind positive and forward focused.
"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." -Gandhi
"Sacrifice is simply the production of sacred things." -C Hamilton
"Better they laugh at me than me be them." - Steve Morgan
"Criticism is the death gargle of a non-achiever" - Chris Brady
"Nice guys may appear to finish last, but usually they are running in a different race." -Blanchard & Peale
"Failure is just an opportunity to start over again with more intelligence."
"People want all the results of the successful, but they want all the habits of the unsuccessful. If you follow the habits consistently of the unsuccessful, then you will have no right to expect anything but unsuccess, but if you follow the habits of the successful consistently, then you have every right to expect success." -Orrin Woodward
"Would the kid you were, admire the man you are?"

"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."
